The buzz around James Gunn’S Superman has taken a positive turn with a new report from those who participated in a recent screening test.
While initial reactions haven’t been good, with some industry insiders expressing concern, new feedback suggests Superman fans have a lot to look forward to.
ON The hot mic podcast, hosts Jeff Sneider and John Rocha initially reported mixed responses from the screening. Sneider, citing a source, said there were “a lot of reasons to be nervous,” while Rocha added that the film had a tone reminiscent Captain America: The First Avenger AND The Mummy and described it as “decent”.
However, new insights from other participants paint a much brighter picture. According to CBM, they were told the film is “Guardians of the Galaxy-good level.”
While some visual effects were still incomplete, “many shots were polished enough” to give a real sense of the film’s potential.
Those who shared their thoughts reportedly “loved the film,” highlighting its emotional resonance and classic superhero tone.
This change in initial enthusiasm for the film highlights the subjective nature of early screenings. Some films endure harsh initial reactions only to become beloved by audiences upon release. Sneider himself underlined that blockbusters are popular Barbie they faced similar skepticism during test selections.
Superman is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, and I hope it will be a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of one of the most iconic superheroes ever created.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.
“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
“It’s set in a world very different from ours and very far from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for centuries and we’ll see how that has influenced the history of this world and shaped the DCU.”
Superman stars David Corenswet like Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicola Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio as Eva Teschmacher; AND Terence Rosemore as Otis.
