Keanu Reeves says he wants to do JOHN WICK 5 but his knees say otherwise

Keanu Reeves he had a great time playing the badass assassin John Wick. After four films that have grossed over $1 billion worldwide, Reeves has proven time and time again that he’s willing to push his body to the limit for the franchise.

But the 59-year-old star recently admitted he’d like to do another one John Wick movie, but there’s an obstacle that could get in the way John Wick 5… his knees.

“You can never say never,” Reeves told CBS News, pondering the possibility of returning as the titular assassin. “My knees right now are saying, ‘I can’t do another one.’ John Wick.‘ So does my heart, but I don’t know if my knees can do it.

Fans of the series will remember this John Wick: Chapter 4 seemed to conclude John’s journey, with the character appearing to die from injuries sustained after a climactic duel in the Sacré Coeur Basilica.

In his final moments, John imagines his late wife, Helen, before the film cuts to Winston (Ian McShane) and the King Bowery (Laurence Fishburne) by visiting John’s gravestone.

But that ending wasn’t always so ambiguous. Director Chad Stahelski revealed that an alternate ending was planned in which John Wick’s survival was explicitly shown. It was filmed and tested with audiences.

Stahelski shared, “The audiences we tested with absolutely preferred the ambiguous ending.”

As you know, Reeves was firmly in favor of killing off the character. Producer Basil Iwanyk explained that Reeves is often physically and emotionally drained at the end of each film, making it difficult for him to contemplate another installment.

Iwanyk said in a previous interview: “After the second, third and fourth movies, making these movies is so exhausting and destroys Keanu. In the end he always says, “I can’t do it again.”

In fact, Reeves reportedly begged to have John Wick killed off permanently at the end Chapter 4. The filmmakers, however, decided to leave a “small 10% gap” for the character’s potential return.

Reeves previously told Entertainment Weekly: “I wouldn’t do one John Wick movies without [director] Chad Stahelski. For me it’s really right that John Wick finds peace.”

I have no idea if Reeves will return for another John Wick movie, but they could always work his bad knees into the script! There’s no doubt that Wick would have sore knees after what he’s been through.

Despite Reeves’ uncertainty, Lionsgate wants to make it happen John Wick 5. For now, however, there is no official green light. Meanwhile, Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in the upcoming spin-off Dancerwhich will be released in theaters on June 6, 2025.
