Michael B. Jordan he left an indelible mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Erik Killmonger Black Panther. Jordan’s Killmonger was a fantastic character, strong, complex and ferocious.
Although the character met his demise in the first film, he appeared as a variant in Marvel What if…? series and in Ancestral Plane during Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Now, it has been reported that Jordan might return to the role of Killmonger once again in one of Marvel’s upcoming films Avengers movie.
According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, Jordan is expected to return, potentially as a variant of the Black Panther, either way. Avengers: Judgment Day OR Avengers: Secret Wars.
As you can imagine, this development sparked excitement among fans, many of whom were hoping for Killmonger’s redemption and a larger role in the franchise following Boseman’s tragic passing.
Before Letitia Wright’s Shuri took over Wakanda foreverthere was widespread speculation that Marvel Studios might retread Killmonger’s death and explore a redemption arc.
Even if that didn’t work, Secret Wars offers Marvel the opportunity to rewrite reality itself, as the plot centers on Doctor Doom’s creation of Battleworld, where universes collide.
This could pave the way for Killmonger to rule as an evil Black Panther or even a hero under unique circumstances. It’s been reported that Doomsday will feature an “overwhelming number of variants,” so this is very likely.
Jordan had previously reflected on his experience reprising the role of Killmonger Wakanda forever:
“It’s hard, I think, this time, because we lost our brother Chadwick – rest in peace to Chadwick Boseman – it was so heavy to overcome.
“AND [director] Ryan Coogler had a huge task ahead of him: to evolve the script and story in a way that still honors Chadwick but also moves the franchise forward.”
Jordan also detailed the challenges of keeping his return under wraps:
“In order to come back – and I really had to keep it under wraps, I had to grow my hair out. You know, I put my locks back and stuff like that.
“And I’m traveling to a lot of places, so I have to wear a hat, a hoodie, fly private, which isn’t that bad. But keeping it under wraps was a really difficult thing.”
Killmonger’s What if…? Variant, who wielded the Infinity Stones, remains out there in the multiverse, and his unique perspective as both a tactician and warrior could bring a dynamic new layer to the world. Avengers team or their opposition.
His presence inside Secret Wars could also lead to significant narrative changes, creating a future Wakanda led by an adult T’Challa, the young prince introduced in Wakanda forever.
With Avengers: Judgment Day release is scheduled for May 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars starting in May 2027, fans are eager to see how these films will reshape the MCU.
