FX cancelled Jeff Bridges’drama and action series The Old Man after two seasons. Even though I thought the series was really good, I’m not surprised it was cancelled.
The production was hit with many circumstantial problems that it couldn’t control over the course of its two seasons, with production shutting down multiple times due to the pandemic, Bridges’ cancer treatment, and the WGA strike.
Executive producer Warren Littlefield said: “We made 15 episodes in five years; What a crazy journey it has been. I love everyone involved in the show.
The series was based on Thomas Perry’s bestselling book, and the story centers on Dan Chase (Bridges), who escaped from the CIA decades ago and has been living outside the box ever since. When an assassin arrives and tries to eliminate Chase, the old agent discovers that to secure his future he must now reconcile with his past.
The show also had a great supporting cast which included John Lithgow, Amy Brennemann AND Alia Shawkat.
The Old Man it was the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021, beating out 60 other dramas, comedies and limited series on premium and basic cable, while also becoming the most-watched FX series to debut on Hulu in its opening weekend.
It also recently received three Critics Choice TV nominations, Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Bridges and Best Supporting Actor for Lithgow.
