New Photos and Details for JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH – “It’s a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his previous films”

Universal Pictures has shared some new images from Jurassic World: Rebirthwhich is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, the creator).

This film is just the beginning of a brand new story they hope to tell over the course of multiple films. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Edwards said:

“I can’t speak for Universal, but in a way it felt like a new trilogy. I’m not sure what their plans are, but it felt like the start of a brand new chapter in this franchise.

He went on to say that the film is “a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his previous films.” He explained: “There are moments in this film that remind me a lot of Jaws. It’s like a little big success of all those aspects of his films that I loved when I was a child. It’s essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really.

Well, that sounds like fun! I love Spielberg’s early films, and if the film can actually capture that tone… great!

Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan BaileyAND Mahershala Alithey are essentially the new faces of Jurassic worldand the site goes on to say that “Edwards compares the trio’s dynamic to Brody, Hooper and Quint’s Jawsplayed in that 1975 Spielberg classic by Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, AND Robert Shaw – disparate individuals hunting a prehistoric creature.

The report reveals that the film is set five years after the events of Domain“where dinosaurs mixed with humans around the world, these creatures are now disappearing.

“The present planet proved inhospitable to prehistoric beings, except for a small region in the tropics around the equator, where many of them now congregate.

“The three most colossal dinosaurs of land, sea and air within this biosphere contain valuable genetic material for a pharmaceutical company hoping to use dinosaur DNA to create a life-saving drug for humanity.”

Johansson plays Zora Bennett, “a special operations agent, ex-CIA member,” who is tasked with infiltrating the region and extracting DNA from these monoliths.

“He has a sibling bond with Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala), his most trusted ally who captains their team’s ship – ‘He’s a bit like Ahab from our movie.’

Bailey is the paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis. “It’s out of reach as far as the military element of the mission. He is very comfortable in excavations and expeditions, but not in the life-or-death risks that Kincaid and Zora find themselves in.

The official plot synopsis reads: “The planet’s ecology proved largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those that remain exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates similar to those in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures in the tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humanity.”

There is also a twist in the story, where Zora’s team receives an emergency signal from a civilian boat that has capsized due to an attack.

As a fan of the Jurassic park movie, I really hope this movie manages to capture Spielberg’s original magic.

Original Jurassic park screenwriter David Koepp wrote the film’s screenplay, and Universal Pictures will release Rebirth in theaters on July 2, 2025.
