A rumor has surfaced that Sony Pictures is “seriously considering” selling the Spider-Man IP to Marvel Studios.
This information was reported by inside scooper MTTSH, and it’s one of those rumors that’s hard to believe, but you never know!
The voices come later Kraven the Hunter completely bombed at the box office on its opening weekend. Sony has had a string of bad Marvel movies Morbius AND Mrs. Web. Poison they had a decent run for how mediocre they were.
But Spider-Man is the studios’ bread and butter, all the Spider-Man movies they’ve produced with Marvel Studios have been huge hits, and even the animated Spider-Verse movies have been pretty damn awesome!
The report offers no insight into what might be happening behind the scenes, but if it’s true, perhaps the studio’s failures outweigh its successes.
I just can’t see Sony Pictures selling a billion dollar intellectual property! It looks like Marvel and Sony have formed a strong alliance when it comes to Spider-Man thanks to an unprecedented deal.
It was actually recently revealed that this partnership “never stopped Sony from using Spider-Man in its films that didn’t bear his name,” but there was “a feeling within the studio that audiences wouldn’t accept that Dutch Spidey would suddenly appear in a movie.” live-action film that was not part of the MCU.”
So, Sony could have included Spider-Man in their films. I think they could have actually incorporated Spider-Man into some of these spin-offs if Sony had partnered with Marvel to make it happen. But that ship has sailed.
If Marvel Studios were able to bring Spider-Man fully back into the fold, it would give them the freedom to do whatever they want with the character in the MCU, including all the other fan-favorite Spider-Man universe characters.
