Last week it was revealed that the Scrub reboot the series from the original creator Bill Lawrence was officially in early development at ABC.
Since then, die-hard fans of the show have expressed their concerns that a reboot might not be able to hold a candle to the original, as so many other rebooted series have failed in their attempts.
Lawrence, who was the show’s creator and executive producer, responded to some concerned fans on social media.
One fan said he was “hoping[s] that doesn’t happen,” asking Lawrence on
“Yes, I will help you,” Lawrence wrote in response. “Why do you hope it doesn’t happen? Not many people work here. The cast and crew all love each other. And if it’s great you’ll be thrilled. If it isn’t, you won’t watch. Get on board! lol.”
The fan explained that the ending was so “incredible,” he hopes Lawrence and the writers can “recapture that magic,” otherwise “it will feel forced.”
“I understand you, friend. And I’m grateful that you invested,” Lawrence responded. “But we’re going to have to come up with something that makes it seem worthwhile. And hopefully we can. But it’s a lot of fun to try it. It’s our job!”
In another response, he admitted: “Look, honestly, it’s going to be like any show. We could blow it all up. We could nail it. I have often had both experiences.”
“Guess the simple summary of the reboot: I get reservations from some people the same way I get excitement from others,” Lawrence added in a post. “They both just feel the pressure to do something cool/new/good. We’ll try. I guess the world will let us know if it works.
With Lawrence on board, 20th TV is moving to protect the main network Scrub original cast— Zach Braffwho plays John “JD” Dorian, Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid), Donald Faison (Christopher Turk) e John C McGinley (Perry Cox).
It is not clear whether Judy Reyes will return as no-nonsense nurse Carla Espinosa, who left the medical comedy before its final season. According to sources, his character was considered in early plans for the reboot.
Stay tuned for more information on the development of the series. Are you more excited or nervous about the reboot of this series?
