As you know, Star Wars: The Acolyte Creator Leslye Promontory set up some story threads that could be explored in future seasons of the show. One of the most interesting elements was the brief introduction of Darth Plagueis.
But that’s a plot we’ll never see play out since Disney canceled the Lucasfilm film. The Acolyte after just one season, leaving fans to speculate what might have happened if the series had continued.
During a panel at FanExpo in San Francisco that took place this past weekend, a fan asked Manny Jacinto if he could share anything about a potential future season of The Acolyteas well as how his character was connected to Darth Plagueis.
“Oh man, that’s a tough question. I’m not [connected]they definitely aren’t. Oh man, how can I answer that? What time is it? [laughs]
“There are definitely a lot of different theories as to who he is, because we never know his true identity. Is Qimir’s name actually Qimir?
“We definitely wanted to explore that. There definitely would have been more Plagueis in the second, or if not, third season of the show, but I can’t say, because, you know, we might come back.
“I don’t want to spoil anything or give anyone false hope, but I would just say there was a lot more to explore, for sure.”
It’s surprising to learn that Darth Plagueis and Qimir are not related, which makes the villainous character’s arc that much more interesting.
Headland had previously been asked how the story came about The Acolyte Palpatine connects to Plagueis’ training and she says:
“Yes, I think so. If I keep telling this story, I know how I would like it to end. And I would say I think it’s pretty complicated and confusing.”
Headland also said, “Although [Osha and The Stranger] they are there, watching the sunset, ready to conquer the world, the tragedy is that we know they don’t. We know there can only be two.”
“We know that Plagueis is there. We know that these two are doomed in some way. So for me it’s a bittersweet tragedy, this disturbing ending. But it’s because I know the Sith lineage and all these other things, whereas I think a different thing. subset of the audience may be like, ‘They’re married!'”
Perhaps Darth Plagueis will be explored in a separate project at some point.
