Dave Filoni talks about working on THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU and how far puppet theater has come

There’s a year and a half left until the viewing The Mandalorian and Grogu graces our screens, but it seems to be doing very well. Based on the series The Mandalorianthe film will follow the title character, also known as Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pasqualewhich will be joined by the cutest of Star Wars creatures, Grogu.

While story details have been kept mostly under wraps, we have an interesting update from Star Wars producer Dave Filoniwho got to work closely with the creature formerly known as “baby Yoda.”

While on the red carpet for the last one Star Wars series, Skeleton crewExtraTV asked Filoni what he could say about the film The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Of course, Filoni didn’t reveal anything about plot details, but he did note that he was “very” excited about the film and went on to talk about how Grogu has evolved over the years.

Filoni also confirmed that production of the film, which began in the summer of 2024, is now officially finished.

“Jon and I had a great time working on it, as we always do,” he said. “It was great to see Grogu. He became a real star.

“It’s amazing how it’s evolved. What can we do now with puppets compared to the first season and where we are today in a film. Working with a team, with whom I’ve worked quite a bit on the legacy effects of puppets. They did a fantastic job and what a wonderful little creation Grogu is.”

It’s nice to hear that practical effects Star Wars it is famous for constantly evolving and improving. It must be amazing to be on any of their sets.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026, and you can catch up on the first three seasons of the show, now available on Disney+.
