Christopher Nolan recently praised Duna: second part in a conversation with the director Denis Villeneuve describing it as “a miraculous work of adaptation”.
Nolan was part of a recent DGA panel with Villeneuve and went on to say, “To take the second half and make an incredible conclusion to the story… what an amazing job.”
Nolan added: “If, for me, Dune it was like Star WarsThen Dune 2 AND The Empire strikes againwhich is my favorite Star Wars movie. I think it’s just a great expansion of everything that was introduced in the first one.
“What really struck me was the sense of immersion in that world. It’s a film that has so many unique images, so many things you’ve never seen before in this film, one after another, and I was so struck by the detail of it all.”
This isn’t the first time Nolan has made a comparison Duna: second part TO The Empire strikes again. He previously said: “For me, I don’t think it’s saying too much to say that Duna: first part era Star Warsthis is a lot for me The Empire strikes againwhich is my favorite among Star Wars movie. I just think it’s an incredibly exciting expansion of all the things that were introduced in the first one.”
Dune: Part Two was fantastic, and Villeneuve plans to start filming the third installment of the franchise, based on Herbert’s ’69 novel Dune Messiah, in late 2025 or 2026.
