STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW creator says children in story think Jedi are fairy tale characters

Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew will do something very different with Star Wars franchise and will have a different feel and tone than anything we’ve seen Lucasfilm do before.

The story follows a group of kids traveling across the galaxy, and has been described as an 80s-style Amblin movie, inspired by The Goonieswhich is very evident in the footage we saw. The perception that these characters have of the Jedi will also be explored.

During an interview with the co-creator Chris Fordwe learn that the children in the story think the Jedi are fairy tale characters.

He said: “We wanted to include the idea that these kids had heard about Jedi and stories of good versus evil in the same way that on our planet we have fairy tales or King Arthur stories of the Knights of the Round Table.”

He continued: “We wanted to make sure we did it thoughtfully so it didn’t feel like some weird meta thing. So, Wim and his friends, they know about the Jedi, they’ve read Jedi stories, they even do a mock lightsaber fight , but we were very clear that we didn’t want to cross certain lines.

“Like when they pretend to make lightsaber [fight]they make the wrong noise, because they haven’t seen the films. They have never seen a lightsaber in real life.

“So, it was like finding a way to make it authentic to the Star Wars galaxy… Like their toys aren’t Kenner, they’re more like tin toys, a little more old fashioned kind of pre-market toy.”

I love what they are doing with this! This will add an interesting layer to the story and is just a cool little detail that I’m glad they thought of.

Skeleton crew follows the journey of four boys “who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then become lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy, encountering the likes of Jod Na Nawood, the mysterious character played by Law.

“Finding their way home and encountering unlikely allies and enemies will be an adventure greater than they ever imagined.”

The series was created by Jon Watts (Spider-Man) and get started Jude Law,Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana KratterAND Robert Timothy Smith. Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana KratterAND Robert Timothy Smith.
