Delightful clip from David Lowery’s animated Christmas special AN ALMOST CHRISTMAS STORY

Disney+ has released a charming clip for the upcoming Christmas special, An almost Christmas storywhich was directed by David Lowery (The Green Knight, Pete’s Dragon) and produced by Alfonso Cuaron (Children of men, gravity).

An almost Christmas story is the third and final installment of Cuarón’s collection of Christmas shorts for Disney+. His first short film The Pupilsearned an Oscar nomination in 2022 and one last year The shepherd was selected, both in the Live Action Short Film category.

An almost Christmas story “is inspired by the true events of a baby owl rescued from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York in 2020.”

In the story: “Moon, a curious young owl who unexpectedly finds himself stuck in a Christmas tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza. In an attempt to escape the busy city, Moon befriends a lost girl named Luna.

“Together, they embark on a heartwarming adventure, discovering the magic of the holiday season and forming an unlikely bond as they return home to their parents.”

The clip is titled “Moon at Rockefeller” and features the owl on the decorated Christmas tree looking out over New York City. It also shows how he finds himself falling from the tree.

The talented voice cast includes Cary Christopher like Luna, newcomer Estella Madrigale like the Moon, Jim Gaffigan in the role of Papa Owl, Mamoudou Athie in the role of Pelly, Alex Ross Perry as Dave the dog, Gianna Giuseppe as Peaky, Phil Rosenthal as Punt, with Natasha Lyonne like Pat e John C. Reilly as The Folk Singer, who performs four songs in the short film, two of which are original songs.

Produced by Disney Branded Television and Cuarón’s Esperanto Filmoj, in association with Titmouse and Maere Studios, and with animation services from 88 Pictures. Jack Thorne conceived the story and wrote the screenplay.

The holiday special is currently available to watch on Disney+.
