Today I have a behind the scenes video to share with you that offers a first look at the upcoming survival thriller. Primitive warfarewhat stars Jeremy Piven (Entourage) AND Ryan Kwanten (True Blood).
The film is set during the Vietnam War and involves a team of soldiers facing off against dinosaurs! Primitive War is an adaptation of the cult novel of the same name by Ethan Pettus.
The story follows the Vulture Squad, “a reconnaissance team sent to a remote jungle valley in 1968 to locate a platoon of missing Green Berets, only to find themselves face to face with prehistoric predators.”
The film was written and directed by Luca Sparke (Occupation Rain, bring it to me), and is also the protagonist Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica, Lucifer), Nick Wechsler (Revenge, the boys), Antonio Ingruber (Adaline’s age), Aaron Glenane (Danger nearby), Carlos Sanson Jr (Hit) AND Ana Thu Nguyen (Mortal Combat 2).
The film was shot on the Gold Coast, Australia, with a mostly local crew, expansive sets and real jungle locations adding to a raw and immersive experience.
The behind-the-scenes video not only includes footage from the film, but also features interviews with the cast and crew talking about bringing this crazy story to life.
Sparke talks about first reading Pettus’ novel and how the striking cover of a soldier fighting a Utahraptor captured his imagination, while Helfer adds, “It’s about people coming together, using primal instincts to survive.”
Wechsler describes the concept as “bananas – and much better than the business actually is.” Carlos Sanson added that it is “a war movie meets dinosaur movie meets action movie, blending the best of all genres.”
Produced by Carmel Imrie and Carly Sparke, with executive producers Geoff Imrie and Luke Sparke & Co producer Alex Becconsall, “Primitive War” also boasts Wade Muller (“Occupation Rainfall”) as director of photography and Carly Sparke overseeing the design production, editing and visual effects.
