Japanese adult film actress Sayaka Tomoda has spoken out about how her family reacted when she revealed her career choice to them, Tokyo Reporter reported.
In her youth, Tomoda dreamed of becoming a mainstream actress. When she reached 18, she felt she was already too old to break into traditional show business and chose an alternative route. She began appearing in adult films while her talent agency paid for her acting lessons.
Tomoda waited two years before telling her family about her work, preparing herself for a harsh response. She told her relatives they could sever all ties with her, acknowledging that her career choice was unthinkable.
Her mother surprised her with a supportive response, admitting she had already guessed something of the kind. She told Tomoda she could continue working in the industry as long as she was satisfied with her work.

Tomoda admitted she did not think she could have responded so generously if the roles were reversed. She said she could never fully repay her family for accepting her as she is, adding that she is determined to care for her mother until the end of her life and support her brothers whenever they face trouble.
At 37 years old, Tomoda remains active in the adult film industry and is regarded as one of Japan's most popular performers. Her disclosure follows a similar story in Japan involving a former member of the idol group Magic Palette, who also transitioned into adult modeling after stating that her idol background inspired her to chart her own path.
