Dark Castle Entertainment will produce, develop and finance the claustrophobic thriller film Zealotwhat stars Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Day One, Rebel) AND Kodi Smit-McPhee (Elvis, let me in).
Zealot talks about “privilege, paranoia, and the assumptions we make about each other.” The film follows Hassan, a Somali-American airport shuttle driver in Minneapolis, who struggles to make ends meet.
“When Lloyd, a 20-year-old stranded at the airport, offers to pay Hassan to take him overland to Chicago, it seems worth the risk.
“But as he realizes that his passenger is not what he seems, Hassan discovers that he is trapped in a terrifying race from which he cannot escape, knowing that saving himself could endanger countless others.”
Norman Golightly, co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment, said in a statement: “The collection of talent, both in front of and behind the camera, that has been attracted to this project speaks to the caliber of this relentless and timely thriller.
“Remember movies like Collateralthe audience will not only be on the edge of their seats, but they will also have a lot to think about on their way home.”
The thriller is directed by Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog, Persian lessons) and written by the playwright Bennett Fisher. Zealot is based on his award-winning work Damascus.
