The next James Bond actor will have to accept at least ‘a decade of films’

The hunt for a new James Bond is underway and we have no idea who the next actor to take on the role will be. There have been many rumors and speculation, but nothing is set in stone.

During a recent interview with The Independent, longtime franchise producer Barbara Broccoli and his brother, Michael G. Wilsonthey talked about the future of James Bond and the type of actor they are looking for.

Broccoli explained: “It’s a big decision” and whoever signs up to play 007 will have to meet certain conditions. He explained:

“It will be a man. He will probably be in his 30s. The fact that he is white is not a given. And anyone who says yes is doing so with the expectation of at least a decade of films.”

The fact that they are looking for an actor in his thirties rules some of the fan favorite choices Idris Elba (Luther) AND Tom Hardy (Poison). He also rules out the idea of a woman playing Bond. But Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train, Kick-Ass) could still be an option.

The most important thing is that anyone who signs up will have to commit for at least ten years, which is a long time, but it’s something that is asked of most actors who agree to play Bond.

Wilson went on to add, “Every time we cast a new actor, the films change. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction. Each of these people who took on the role offered something new and different.”

Broccoli went on to talk about his late father’s vision for the franchise, saying, “He always said that movies were like the circus coming to town. You put up your tent, everyone comes and you create the magic. The important thing is to please the audience, create sure that people get the most out of their investment.”

I imagine it will be a while before a new Bond is chosen, but it will be interesting to see who they end up choosing. While we wait, are there any up-and-coming actors you think would be a good fit?
