Denis Villeneuve responds to Quentin Tarantino’s refusal to watch DUNE

Last week, Quentin Tarantino spoke Denis Villeneuve’S Dune and explained why he refuses to watch it. Villeneuve has now responded to Tarantino’s opinion.

Here’s what Tarantino said: “I saw [David Lynch’s] Da a couple of times. I don’t need to revisit that story. I don’t need to see spice worms. I don’t need to see a movie that says the word spice so dramatically.”

Tarantino continued, “There’s back to back of this remake and that remake. People are like, ‘Did you see that? Dune?’ “Did you see?” Ripley?’ “Did you see?” Shogun?’ And I say, ‘No, no, no, no.'”

During a recent meeting with students from the Mel Hoppenheim Film School at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Villeneuve was asked about Tarantino’s comments, and this was his response:

“I don’t care. It’s true. I agree with him that I don’t like this idea of recycling and bringing old ideas back to life. But what I don’t agree with is that what I did wasn’t a remake. It’s an adaptation of the book. I see it as an original.

Villeneuve added: “But we are very different human beings.” I really liked what Villeneuve did with it Dune movie and yes, they are nothing like David Lynch’s classic 80’s adaptation.

While I’m a fan of Lynch’s film, the recent films are definitely a much stronger adaptation.
