It was recently revealed that Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy hired writer, director and producer Simone Kinberg write and produce a new one Star Wars trilogy.
We don’t know what exactly this trilogy will be, but it was initially reported that it will not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga. The big surprise was the involvement of Kinberg, who has a spotty track record.
While he worked Star Wars Rebelswas also involved X-Men: Apocalypse, The Fantastic Four, X-Men: Dark PhoenixAND X-Men: Days of Future Past..
According to a new piece from Variety, the news of Kinberg’s hiring came as a surprise to executives at Lucasfilm and Disney, but he is “internally considered to be in deep development and not yet ready to go public.”
The report points out that Kinberg’s history in franchising means that “Kinberg is seen on the one hand as a sensible and safe choice.”
“He is said to know how to talk to movie executives about franchise filmmaking in a way that allays their concerns about creative decisions that impact the expensive profits of these types of projects.”
Kinberg’s hiring is said to be due to his “ongoing creative relationship with Lucasfilm’s creative executive Carrie Beck and creative director Dave Filoni.”
They worked with him Star Wars Rebels and Kennedy made several attempts to bring him back into the fold.
Finally, it says: “Kinberg’s efforts are intended to create a new saga, but, as is the case with virtually all screenplay development, specific plot details and characters are light years away from taking their final form, not to mention hitting theaters.”
So, we’ll just have to wait and see what this news will be like Star Wars the trilogy turns out… if it ever gets off the ground. Lucasfilm doesn’t have the best track record in producing any of these Star Wars films that announce.
