Earlier this year a report surfaced from Hollywood insiders who were venting their frustrations in working with Dwayne Johnson. Production problems ranged from Johnson’s “chronic tardiness and lack of professionalism on the set to the inexperience of the producers.”
It was also explained that “On set, away from his trailer, if he needs to pee he doesn’t go to the public bathroom. He pees in a Voss water bottle and his team or a personal assistant has to dispose of it.”
Well, it turns out that these things are true as Johnson himself confirmed them. During a new GQ profile, Johnson was asked about his reported lateness and he said, “Yes, it happens. But not that amount, anyway. It was a crazy amount. It’s crazy. Ridiculous.”
Insiders said Johnson “showed up eight hours late to set the film, forcing the crew to shoot around him on some days.”
Then it was reported that “In previous films, Johnson had a habit of peeing in a water bottle to save time, upsetting crew members.”
When asked about those reports of peeing, Johnson confirmed: “Yes, it happens… I’ve said a thousand times, ‘Hey, I’m here. Come ask me. And I’ll tell you the truth.'”
So here you go! Dwayne Johnson pees in bottles while filming to save time. He will next star in the Christmas action film, Red Oneand director Jake Kasdan and co-star Chris Evans they defended Johnson.
Kasdan said: “[Dwayne] I have never missed a day of work. He has a lot to do. Sometimes it can be late, but Hollywood is like that: it’s like that for everyone. Honestly, I made three great films with him. I’ve never seen him be anything but great to every single person on set.”
Evans added: “What about the man I saw, compared to some of the things I’ve seen in other films with other actors who are not only unaware of other people’s time and effort, but also unpredictable?” Future Dwayne – we all know exactly what he’s going to do and when he’s going to do it.
“But this is something that the producers, the director and his whole team, so everyone knows. So it’s all basic. It’s not that it’s late unexpectedly, and I wouldn’t even call it late.
“Some mornings he arrives a little later, but that’s part of the plan. It worked on schedule and everyone knows it, so it shows up when it’s scheduled.”
Evans also pointed out that Johnson gave crew members jobs Red One a total of $100,000 in bonuses.
“THE [giveaway] the pot was four or five thousand dollars or something, and before they brought up the name, Dwayne said, “How much is the pot right now?” And someone said, “I don’t know, four thousand.” And he said, “Let’s call it 20.” And they would come up with a name and whoever won would lose. Dwayne said, “You know what?” Should we do it again? How about 30 this time?’ Everyone goes crazy.”
“And then he says, ‘You know what? How about another one?’ And it was 50. I think one Friday Dwayne gave away something like close to a hundred thousand dollars.
In the end, it doesn’t seem like working with Johnson is as bad as people say, but…yeah, disposing of his pee bottles is definitely not the job anyone wants. PAs could always make some extra money by selling them on the Internet. I’m sure there are strange people out there who would buy Johnson’s pee.
