Denzel Washington revealed that he will star in Marvel Black Panther 3saying that writer and director Ryan Coogler he created a role just for him in the film.
During a recent interview with The Today Show Australia to talk about Gladiator II, Washington was asked if he still carries any anxiety around starring in films like Gladiator.
Washington responded by saying, “At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’ll make, probably not that many.
“I want to do things I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22, now I’ll play it at 70. After that I’ll play Hannibal. After that, I talked to Steve McQueen about a movie.
Washington then added: “After that, Ryan Coogler will write a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that I will make the film Othello. After that I’ll do King Lear. After that I will retire.”
Washington smirked and flashed a peace sign after his retirement comment. I’m pretty sure Washington shouldn’t have shared that news about Black Panther 3 and I imagine he’ll get a call from Kevin Feige now that the news is getting out.
No details about Black Panther 3 have been revealed, but during a previous interview, Coogler spoke about returning to the franchise, saying, “I feel lucky to have the opportunity to work on these movies, brother.
“When I was asked to do the first one, it was like a runaway train. I thank God every day that I was able to jump on it and meet these people, these actors, and meet Chadwick during some of the last years of his life.
“I’ll do it as long as people want me. But I think he’s bigger than me or Joe. Between the first and second film we made $2 billion at the box office, which is the most important thing for companies.
“So I hope it continues, man. I hope people continue to make movies about Wakanda long after we’re gone.”
