The creators of OUTER BANKS tease the potential for future spinoffs as the series enters its final season

Earlier this week it was announced that Netflix’s hit action-adventure YA series External banks is set to end with its upcoming fifth season. But this may not be the end of the Pogues.

The co-creators/executive producers of the show Jonas Pate, Josh Pate AND Shannon Burke said during an interview with Deadline, “We’re excited for season five and we’re excited for more stories in this universe in the future.”

They did not elaborate but indicated that ideas for potential spin-off series and other offshoots of the universe are being explored.

According to sources, there are no projects in the works at the moment, but it is logical that Netflix would try to extend one of its most important series, something it has already done with series like Stranger things AND Bridgerton and is exploring for virgin river.

Netflix has hinted at its bigger plans for External banks — expand the OBX brand into other areas: video games, with the recently released mobile game Stories: Outer Banks; and live events, with the annual Pougelandia fan music festival. There are also licensing deals for OBX products from brands like PacSun, Lottie London and Byrd.

The series revolves around a group of teenagers – Pogues – from the working class of a coastal community in North Carolina. It chronicles their lives, their friendship and their treasure hunting adventures.

The show is the protagonist Chase Stokes (John B.), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Davis (Dad), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Drew Starkey (Rafe), North Austin (Topper), Fiona Palomo (Sofia), J. Anthony Crane (Chandler Groff), Pollyanna McIntosh (Dahlia), Brianna Brown (Hollis Robinson), Rigo Sanchez (Lightning), Mia Challis (Ruthie) e Cullen Moss (Shoupe).

External banks spent a total of 28 weeks in the global top 10 of English TV shows, with many more expected this year following the release of Season 4, Part 2 this week.
