Ryan Reynolds says Marvel has been ‘obsessed’ with Channing Tatum’s gambit since he appeared in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

Channing Tatum he had been trying for over a decade to convince Marvel to enlist him to play the Ragin’ Cajun, Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit in his solo film.

The project kept taking shape and falling apart, leaving Tatum feeling like he might never be able to take on the role of the X-Men’s unique character. But his dream came true when he finally got to play Gambit in this summer’s blockbuster film Deadpool and Wolverine.

The performance was highly praised and gave us a glimpse of what a full Gambit movie might look like. Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds refers to Tatum’s search, as he too was on a crusade to play his character for a long time. Reynolds doesn’t know Gambit’s future, but he teased it Entertainment weekly‘S Award winner podcasts:

“I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in Marvel’s accounting sessions, but I know they’re obsessed with him in that role.

“It’s a bit the same situation I experienced. Once you prove it works well, it’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”

Reynolds is referring to that test footage of his Deadpool that leaked in 2014 and proved to the studio that there was enough hype to move forward with a film.

Earlier this year, Reynolds admitted that he “could have assisted” in that leak. Similarly, he hopes Deadpool and Wolverine may be a proof of concept for Marvel to bring back Tatum as Gambit.

Reynolds continued, “And Channing is so unique in the way he plays that character, but he’s also so beautiful physically, in the way he moves and the way he can do the steps.”

Reynolds has expressed hope to see Channing Tatum get his own movie Gambit, and I hope so too! Want to see this movie made?
