The Babadook director Jennifer Kent has made some great horror films, including the 2018 ones The nightingale as well as an episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix.
I’ve been wondering what’s next for Kent, and in a recent interview with Gizmodo, she said that her next project will bring her back to the horror genre.
Kent joked: “We’re about to announce something moving forward, a movie based on a book. A very well known horror book. But at this point I can’t really say anything else.”
While it hasn’t revealed what the book is, World of Reel claims to have solved the mystery. According to the site, Kent’s next film will adapt the 1992 film Clive Barker novel The thief ever.
The report says: “I can exclusively report that the film will be an adaptation of Clive Barker’s classic novel The thief everwhich is currently in an advanced stage of development. You can expect this to be officially announced very soon.
The thief ever is a dark fantasy novel that follows the story of Harvey Swick, a bored 10-year-old boy craving excitement. When a mysterious figure named Rictus invites him to the magical Vacation Home, Harvey finds a place where every day brings new seasons, holidays, and endless fun.
However, Harvey soon discovers that the Vacation Home and its sinister owner, Mr. Hood, hide a dark secret: time passes differently here, and every day he spends there steals years from his life.
When Harvey realizes that he and the other children are trapped, he must find the courage and cunning to escape and take back the years that were stolen from him.
I hope that’s true because I have no doubt that Kent will be able to turn this novel into a great movie!
