Netflix announced that their series External banks will return for the fifth and final season. The announcement about the YA action-adventure series comes ahead of the Nov. 7 debut of Season 4 Part 2.
In a “Dispatch to all Pogues,” which you can read in full below, External banks co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke explain the decision to end the series after five seasons by recalling how a summer 2017 photo of teenagers on a beach at sunset during a power outage inspired them to conceive the series.
“From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey full of adventure, treasure hunts and friendship,” they said, admitting that at the time “it seemed impossible that we would actually be able to tell it all” . five season story.
The trio can now realize their original vision and are already working on the fifth season, which is currently being written.
“With some sadness, but also some excitement, we leave season four behind and turn to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago,” they said . “Season 5 will be our last season and we think it will be our best yet.”
In the letter to fans, which the brothers Pate and Burke appropriately signed with “P4L” (Pogues for Life), they also spoke of season 4 as “the longest and most difficult – but also the most rewarding – to produce”, anticipating “ a “final” feature film, “which we feel is our best and most powerful episode.”
Season 4 sees the Pogues return to the “G” game as they set off in search of Blackbeard’s treasure. As with the Royal Merchant’s gold and El Dorado, the chase is dangerous, putting everyone’s lives in danger as they face enemies old and new – and JJ must also grapple with the shocking truth about his ancestors.

Josh Pate and Burke wrote half of the first season’s episode and have co-written every episode of the series together since the second season. Jonas Pate directed 6 out of 10 episodes for each season, including all premieres and finales (as well as writing one season one episode.)
