The official Godzilla social media accounts have announced that it is brand new Godzilla the film has officially been greenlit for production!
Takashi Yamazaki (Godzilla minus one) will return to write and direct the next one Godzilla film for Toho, and he will also lead all the visual effects.
There aren’t many details about the project, but you can watch the official “Emergency Announcement” video below!
This is exciting! I assume this will serve as a sequel to Godzilla: Minus One. Yamazaki had previously spoken about a sequel saying:
“If I were to direct the next Godzilla movie, I’d love to make a sequel to this one. There have been two standalone Godzilla movies in a row, so maybe the next one will feature a bad monster.”
He also explained that he wants to make a Kaiju vs. Kaiju that’s really good, saying, “I don’t know if anyone has managed to achieve a more serious tone than Kaiju vs. Kaiju with the human drama, that challenge, that’s something I would like.” to explore.”
He went on to add, “When you have films that have this characteristic [kaiju battles]I think it’s very easy to put the spotlight and the camera on this huge show, which detaches itself from the human dramatic component.”
He also previously said that he would like to play with Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah, so we might see them appear sometime, which would be awesome!
