Netflix has announced that it has renewed the animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft for a second season.
I haven’t seen all of season one yet, but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s good. It’s not as good as I hoped, but enough people are watching Netflix to actually want to develop a second season.
Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One) stars in the series and provides the voice of Lara Croft.
The first season is set after the events of the video game reboot trilogy. “Lara Croft, one of gaming’s most iconic adventurers, makes her anime debut in an all-new series.
“Picking up the events of the reboot trilogy of the hit Tomb Raider video game, the animated series will cover the globetrotting heroine’s latest, greatest adventure. Twenty-five years after the release of her first game, Lara continues to explore new territory.”
In season two: “When adventurer Lara Croft discovers a trail of stolen African Orisha masks, she joins forces with her best friend Sam to recover the precious artifacts.
“Lara’s thrilling new adventure takes her around the world as she delves deeper into the hidden secrets of Orisha’s history, dodge the machinations of a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire who wants the masks for himself, while discovering that these relics contain dark secrets and a power that defies logic.
Showrunner Tasha Huo teased his take on Lara’s character evolution in season two: “So season one, thematically, is about Lara embracing how her father dealt with grief, which was isolating. When we meet Lara, she is very isolated…
“As we go into season two, we’re trying to build Lara’s team over the course of the show, so she goes from being this isolated hero, just wanting to do things on her own — a lone wolf — to realizing, ‘In reality, I have this really great team behind me.’ “
From legendary television, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is executive produced and written by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Origin of Blood, Red Sonja). Executive producers include the founder and CEO of dj2 Entertainment Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog, Life is Strange), together with Timothy I. Stevenson; Jacob Robinson (Skull Island) under his company Tractor Pants; Dallas Dickinson AND Noah Hughes for Crystal Dynamics; AND Howard Bliss AND Jen Chambers.
Powerhouse Animation is the animation studio, with Brad GraebeI’m serving as executive producer.
