Godzilla minus one is back in the news due to Godzilla’s 70th anniversary and the film will be re-released in theaters with some reshoots.
Writer and director Takashi Yamazaki recently spoke about the film at New York Comic-Con and revealed that he initially planned to kill off one of the story’s main characters.
When asked about the ending of the film, which featured Koichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) reunite with the injured Noriko Oishi (Minami Hamabe), Yamazaki revealed that the first draft of the film featured Noriko dying.
He explained that he changed the situation later because he felt that Shikishima needed a victory after all the craziness and craziness he had endured. He said: “If he came home and she [wasn’t there]it would be tragic.”
Yamazaki made the right choice! It was good to see that Noriko survived. Watching the movie, after she was wiped out during Godzilla’s attack on the city, I honestly didn’t think we’d see her again.
It is explained that when “they were shooting the scene where Godzilla attacked her, they gave Hamabe makeup that could have been overlaid in CG to show the wounds from the attack, if they had chosen to keep her alive. They eventually did, and Yamazaki was ultimately satisfied with Noriko’s fate.
