HARLEY QUINN showrunners share details about the deleted sex scene between Batman and Catwoman

Many fans love what DC Animation has done with Harley Quinn animated series. The creative team is clearly having fun and trying to do new and innovative things with the stories they tell.

In the third season of the series, a scene was originally planned that was cut and showed Batman lashing out at Catwoman. Co-creators and showrunners Justin Halpern AND Patrick Schumacker recently offered some insights into that pared-down scene.

During an interview with Inverse, Halpern and Schumacker revealed more details about this Harley Quinn moment that was shot down by DC.

Harpern explained: “We wanted a cold open. We thought it would be fun to start with Catwoman [laying down]but you’re not really sure what’s going on…

“We wanted the idea that he wasn’t doing it for her. He doesn’t understand her and can’t connect with her sexually because he can’t connect with her emotionally.

The scene was supposed to offer some commentary on Batman’s emotional unavailability with Catwoman, which makes sense narratively, but DC wasn’t on board.

According to Halpern, DC told the creative team, “You can’t do that. You absolutely can’t do that. He went on to say that “it’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also picking on someone.”

So instead, the scene we got was Batman giving Catwoman a foot massage, which ultimately did a good job of showing Batman’s problems connecting with Catwoman.

When news initially broke that the sex scene had been cut, there was a lot of talk on social media. In this regard, Halpern thought it would have become “a bigger deal than it probably would have been” if the scene itself had simply been included in the episode.
