Focus Features has released a new trailer for its dramatic religious thriller Conclavewhich has a great cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John LithgowAND Isabella Rossellini. Sounds like a pretty intense movie!
The film is an adaptation of Robert Harris’s novel, and the story is set against the backdrop of the headquarters of the Catholic Church in the Vatican. Over the span of a few days, the story follows the unexpected death of the Pope and the efforts to choose a new one.
The story follows one of the most secret and ancient events in the world: the choice of the new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with managing this secret process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope.
“Once the most powerful leaders of the Catholic Church have gathered from around the world and are locked in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the wake of the dead Pope, secrets that could shake the foundations of the Church.”
Tucci plays the progressive Cardinal Bellini who aims to secure the papacy, but faces stiff competition from Cardinal Tremblay of Lithgow. Rossellini plays Sister Agnese, whose role in the papal election is vital.
Sergio Castellitto (German Cardinal), Lucian Msamati (Cardinal Adeyemi), Brian F. O’Byrne (O’Malley) e Carlos Diehz complete the supporting cast.
The film is directed by Edward Berger (All quiet on the Western Front) from a screenplay by Peter Straughan (Tinkerer, Tailor, Soldier, Spy).
Focus features will be released Conclave in limited release on November 1st and wide release on November 8th.
