Retro trailer for the 1971 horror film THE HOUSE OF BLOOD starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee

This week’s retro trailer is for the 1971 horror film The house that was dripping with blood. I’m a fan of horror anthology films and this anthology film was directed by Peter Duffelland is based on a collection of short stories by Roberto Bloch.

The film is structured around four disturbing tales, all centering on a mysterious house where strange and macabre events have occurred.

The first story, “Method for Murder,” follows a horror writer whose fictional killer seems to come to life.

In the second story, “Waxworks,” two friends are haunted by a wax figure that bears an uncanny resemblance to a woman they both once loved.

The third story, “Dolci al dolce”, revolves around an overbearing father and his fear of his daughter, who he suspects of practicing witchcraft.

The final story, “The Cloak”, involves a pompous actor who purchases a cloak for a vampire role, only to discover that the garment has supernatural powers.

Each segment of the film takes place in the realm of psychological horror, blurring the lines between reality and the supernatural. The connective tissue of the plot is an investigation conducted by a Scotland Yard detective into the house and its strange history, uncovering the disturbing connections between the tenants and the sinister nature of the house.

The film has great atmospheric storytelling and great performances from a cast that includes horror icons like Christopher Lee AND Peter Cushing, The house that was dripping with blood offers a chilling blend of gothic horror and mystery.
