Fans around the world have now gotten a look at Marvel’s trailer Lightning*which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con last summer.
It answered a few questions and gave us a lot more to theorize and think about as we wait for the film’s release next spring. A point of interest in the casting of this film was the role of Bob, which was given to the actor Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: nonconformist, Salem’s Lot).
This is a newcomer to the story, which is mostly filled with Marvel characters we know and love, and with a name like Bob, it left us wondering.
Many have deduced that he will likely take on the role of the Sentry, whose name is Robert (Bob) Reynolds in the comics, and this has all but been confirmed.
But one thing that’s still firmly up in the air is whether or not this character will fall on the hero or villain side within the roster of other antiheroes.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Pullman spoke about his role and, when asked what the status of Bob’s intentions was, he said:
“God, I’d like to know. Honestly, I don’t know. One of the exciting parts of being invited into this whole universe is that there are a lot of unknowns, and you just have to go with the flow and embrace the unknowns of it all.”
The Sentinel is a Superman-style Marvel Comics character, often considered the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe, who began as an ordinary man who ingested a serum that gave him immense power.
But The Sentry’s power means that for every good deed he does, his evil side known as The Void counters it. This means that although the hero has the ability to be the best and most useful hero in the world, he could also be the most evil and dangerous hero.
These conflicting powers are what makes Pullman’s place in the MCU so interesting. Despite feeling insecure himself, Pullman seems to be excited either way, as he adds:
“But I’d like to go both ways. I can say that.” The sentry’s place is inside Lightning* is also up for debate as we don’t have an official synopsis for the film yet.
However, we have plenty of time to see more footage and hear more details Lightning* will be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
