Marvel is reportedly looking for a new director for BLADE

Marvel Studios’ Lama reboot hasn’t had an easy development path since it was first announced four years ago. The film has run into several problems and doesn’t appear to be close to production.

The film went through several directors and writers, the last of which was the director Yann Demangewho left the project several months ago.

Marvel is reportedly focusing on a new director, as The World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy says the studio has recently met with several potential directors and Jeymes Samuel “impressed the higher-ups at Marvel.”

We don’t know if the director is actually in talks, but the source believes there’s a good chance this is the man who will end up getting the job.

Samuel previously directed the Netflix western The harder they falland the recent revisionist religious epic The Book of Clarence. So, what you thought of those films will determine whether you think he is a good director or not. I thought the movies were okay.

It is also mentioned that the latest draft of the script written by Eric Pearsonwho is the sixth writer to work on the project after Michele Verde, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starbury, Beau De Mayo AND Nic Pizzolatto – has “finally satisfied everyone involved”.

That said, there’s a good chance the film will meet its current shooting date of November 1st.

Mahershala Ali is still attached to the film and will be Rated R. Marvel President Kevin Feige recently spoke about the rating, saying:

“Over the last few years, as we’ve been trying to make the film, the most important thing for us is not to rush. And making sure we get the Blade movie right.

“There have been some great ones Lama movies years ago… they were all rated R. So I think it’s intrinsic, like Deadpool, inherent to Blade’s character.

As for why the film took so long to develop, Feige compared the delays to this Deadpool and Wolverinesaying they’re just waiting for “the magic thing to fall into place.”

He said: “It’s part of the process. And when you have a famous character like Blade and a famous actor like Mahershala, everything that happens gets a lot of attention.

“I’m sure you’ve heard us talk about how we were struggling to find the perfect reason for Deadpool to exist, for the third Deadpool movie in the MCU, and then Hugh Jackman called, and everything fell into place.

“Sometimes you need that magical thing to fall into place. And sometimes it happens, sometimes it takes a day. Sometimes it takes two years. Sometimes it takes 10 years. But that’s what you should really wait for, until you accomplish something.

Ali’s last update on the project was: “We are working on it. That’s the best I can tell you. I’m really encouraged by the direction of the project. I think we will return to this topic relatively soon.”

“I’m genuinely encouraged as far as the situation and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as script writing and directing and everything,” he added.

“So that’s all I can tell you.”

Marvel and Disney spent millions of dollars Lama throughout the development and pre-production process, so hopefully they figure out this problem soon and can make production work.
