A few months ago, Legendary and Capcom Street fighter the film hit a major bump in the road when Talk to me directors Danny AND Michele Filippou abandoned the project due to scheduling problems. But it seems they’ve found a new director to take on the challenge.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Kitao Sakurai (Bad trip) has now signed on to direct the film. This is an interesting choice, how Bad trip it was a mix between a buddy comedy and a real hidden camera prank show.
It followed the scandalous misadventures of two friends stuck in a rut who embark on a cross-country road trip to New York.
The movie wasn’t anything special but it offered a few laughs. He also directed some episodes of Peacock’s Twisted metal series.
I’m not convinced this is the guy who’s going to deliver a great outcome Street fighter movie, but maybe he’ll surprise fans and direct something awesome.
It’s a shame that the Philippou brothers walked away from the project, as in a previous interview they seemed very enthusiastic about the film, saying:
“I think it’s great that we have such a connection to the game and the characters, and there’s no big pre-established movie franchise that we have to align ourselves with [with] an overall plot.
“I think we would have the freedom to create what the overall story arc could be if it were a set of films. Also, we would love to have the chance to do an action film.
“We would love to have the ability to do big scenes with a big budget because even on our YouTube stuff we’re designing stunt rigs that have never been done before, and to do it on a large scale, man, I feel like we could create something that nobody’s ever seen before .”
Michael added: “And I think it’s like diving into the tradition of Street fighterall the characters, where they come from, it was so exciting. You have endless ideas, so by putting them on the screen, yes, I think we can create something special.”
