Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing was an incredibly popular and successful television drama when it aired in the early 2000s. Over the years, Sorkin has been asked if it was possible to bring the show back, and now, after a recent trip he took to the White House , it seems to have inspired some new ideas.
Aaron Sorkin and some of the cast of The West Wing were recently at the White House as part of a celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. During an interview with Variety, Sorkin was asked if he would ever consider bringing the show back.
Sorkin responded: “If I had an idea, sure. I hadn’t seriously thought about it, frankly, until today… We’ll see what happens tomorrow when I wake up. But, if you ask me now, that’s how I feel.
He continued, “I just got a couple of episode ideas just from walking around the White House. Like, “why have we never done this?” Why haven’t we ever done this?’”
I’d be curious to know what these ideas are, but he didn’t offer any suggestions as to what they might be. But one thing is for sure, the White House today is no longer the same as it was 25 years ago, and seeing how things have changed in that time could be really interesting.
I’m a fan of Of The West Wing as I loved the writing and the characters in it. I rewatched it recently and it makes me long for the days when politicians seemed competent and no matter what side you were on, you could have a respectful conversation and debate. Things have changed.
I have no idea if we’ll ever see The West Wing revived for a new era, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Sorkin takes the ideas he has and puts them into practice.
