Frank Grillo has had a decent run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villainous character Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones. He has appeared in three Marvel films and has become a fan favorite after Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Fans would still like to see the characters return to the franchise in the future. I would have liked to see the character explored more with a weirder arc, but we got what we got and in the midst of all this, Marvel almost fired the actor multiple times.
During an interview with CB, the actor was asked about his work in the DC Universe. Grillo is set to voice the character of Rick Flag Sr. in the animated series Commando Creaturesbefore appearing as the live-action version of the character in Peacemaker Season 2 and Superman.
He didn’t want to say much about his role because he didn’t want anyone at DC Studios to get mad at him. While at Marvel he explained too much, and he learned his lesson.
Grillo said, “You know, unfortunately, there’s nothing I can say that won’t get me in trouble. So I have to step back and say, ‘I’ll take the fifth.’ I’m so bad at this stuff. Like, Marvel almost fired me 36 fucking times because I don’t know. I never want to lie. And so, I do it a little too much. But I’ve been warned.”
Marvel must have been pretty pissed at him! Nothing seemed to stop him during that time, though. Speaking about his experience working with Marvel and DC, he said:
“I don’t know, at this point in my life, all the things that I thought were real and true, I’ve learned as a mature man that if I was asked to do something like that, I would go back and do it.
“And I love what I’m doing with DC. I love James Gunn and Peter Safran and they’ve given me an incredible opportunity. But at this point, I’m happy with everything I’ve done and I’m certainly open to… if they come across me, if there’s something great to do, I’d certainly be open to it.”
So it looks like Grillo is having a lot of fun playing in these big franchises!
