Second Arrow star Stefano AmellWarner Bros. and DC were actually considering making a hardcore Arrow movie, but they said Warner Bros. nixed the project.
During a recent appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’S Inside you podcast, Amell talked about the idea of a rebirth, saying:
“I mean, I joked about it because I think it would be awesome to go back one day and do something that was in a medium where I could break my bones and drop an F-bomb and just use the ‘hard r’.” [rating] version of Arrow.”
He then went on to say that he and the Arrow team actually tried to do that with a movie. He explained, “As I understand it, it was just butchered at the studio level by people who, I think, were making decisions… based on fear.”
He doesn’t give any details about when it was being worked on. Whether it was something they wanted to do while the show was still running or whether it was something they wanted to do after the show ended.
Arrow was a very well-received series by fans and critics alike, and if it had been turned into a movie, there is no doubt that it would have been a huge event.
WB has had trouble with DC movies for years and while Arrow was going on, they couldn’t figure out what to do with the DC movies. I guess the executives didn’t think it would make sense to produce a Arrow films at a time when they couldn’t even get the films they were making to actually work.
Maybe they were thinking of releasing a Arrow movie would have confused the audience more than it already was. In the end, it wasn’t really meant to be. But, it could have been cool!
