New photo from the film RED SONJA shows Matilda Lutz in full costume

This Sonja the redhead the film must have been going through some trouble behind the scenes because we haven’t seen a trailer yet.

A trailer was supposed to premiere at Comic-Con last summer in 2023, but was never shared. But today we have a new photo from the film to share with you, and it features Matilda Lutz in full costume with a tough look.

The photo was accompanied by the caption: “It’s HIS moment…”

The film was developed by Millennium Media and the director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Silent Hill: Revelation). I’ve always been excited for this movie, but the fact that the team behind it hasn’t made anything since filming wrapped makes me think it might not be the winner fans were hoping for.

Producer Les Weldon explained in an interview that the film will be more grounded than other films in the fantasy genre:

“We’re almost done editing. That film is very grounded and very real, if you like, but there are a couple of sequences where we have to get the CGI right so you don’t look at it and say, ‘Oh, that creature wasn’t there at all.’

“So we’ve finished the movie and we’re ready to move on to the next part of the post. Red Sonja is also a little bit, I don’t want to say a darker version, but a little bit darker than you would expect, certainly compared to the original Red Sonja.

“We want to be very careful about the computer graphics to make sure they’re done right and that they do a service to the film rather than a detriment.”

The film also stars Wallis Day (Sex/Life, Batwoman) like Annisia and Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy, Misfits) like Draygan.

Other cast members include Michael Bisping (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) like Falco, Martyn Ford like General Karlak (F9: The Fast Saga, final score), Elisa Matengu (Thor: Love and Thunder) like Amarak, Manal El Feitury (Code red) like Ayala, and Katrina Durden (Doctor Strange, Shadow and Bone) like Saevus.

The story of the much-loved She-Devil With a Sword began in comics in 1973, and 50 years later, she remains the greatest female sword-and-sorcery heroine of them all!

She has hacked and slashed her way into the hearts of fantasy and comic book fans around the world. An incredible array of writers and artists have taken up her stories in her native comic book medium, including the likes of Roy Thomas, Frank Thorne, Gail Simone, Mirka Andolfo, Mike Carey, Michael Avon Oeming, Jim Zub, Louise Simonson, Mark Russell, Alex Red, Mel Rubiand countless others.
