Failed sequel to the cult film.

In the late 1990s, Robert Downey Jr.’s career was in a very bad state. Due to problems with alcohol and illegal substances, no one in Hollywood wanted to work with the once popular actor – Downey had to play supporting roles in very questionable films.

But in 1998, the actor got the chance to return to the famous Olympus. Director Stuart Baird invited him to play a supporting role in the guaranteed box office hit: the action film “Officers of the Law”.

“Officers of the Law” is a sequel to the mega-popular “The Fugitive” starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. Jones returned to the role of Marshall Sam Gerard and the role of the new fugitive was played by Wesley Snipes.

Downey got the role of one of Jones’ hero’s assistants, but the actor didn’t complain – the film would go on to gross several hundred million at the box office.

It wasn’t until filming began that Downey immediately realized that Officers of the Law wouldn’t help his career in any way — the actor was unbearably bored working on an action film set, and the script seemed so banal to him that he was embarrassed to say his lines out loud.

Downey simply hated the character, calling him insincere and uninteresting, and he described the film itself as “possibly the worst action movie of all time”.

When ‘Officers of the Law’ hit theaters, the actor’s predictions came true. A film with a budget of $60 million all collected 102 million, and critics literally ‘buried’ him in the press.

Film experts rated the film as pathetic 30% “freshness”, and the public was not very generous. Their verdict – 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Surprisingly, law enforcement officers are treated quite favorably in Russia: almost 20,000 Kinopoisk users rated the action film as impressive 7.2 points.

In the rest of the world, Officers of the Law was quickly forgotten, and Downey Jr. continued to wander through questionable films for almost a decade afterward.
