The book description gives more details and it looks like it could make a really great movie!
“It’s three thousand miles from the green fields of glory, where Henry ‘Call me Hank’ Thompson once played baseball in California, to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where the buildings are old, the rents are high, and the drunks are dirty. But now Hank is here, working as a bartender and taking care of a guy named Bud who is sure to get him killed.
“It starts when Hank’s neighbor Russ has to leave town in a hurry and delivers Bud to him in a carrier. But it’s only when two Russians in tracksuits drag Hank over the counter of the diner where he works and beat him to death that he begins to have an idea: someone wants something from him. He just doesn’t know what it is, where it is, or how to make them understand that he doesn’t have it.
“In the space of twenty-four hours, Hank runs across rooftops, hits the right spot on a guy’s head with his old aluminum bat, plays hide-and-seek with the New York police, rides the subway with a dead man at his side, and counts a bag of money on a concrete floor.
“It’s all because of two cowboys, two Russian mobsters, and some of the strangest goons ever gathered together in one place. It’s all because of Bud. It’s all because once upon a time, in another life, in another world, all Hank wanted was to get to third base without getting caught.”
