Great and terrible masterpieces.
Stephen King absolutely rightfully bears the crown for the title King of Horror – cult thrillers and horrors based on the novels of the American writer are recognized all over the world, some of them have even managed to become film classics.
In today’s selection, we’ve rounded up the 10 best film adaptations of Stephen King’s works – many of which you’ve probably seen. Check your watchlists; you may not have seen some of these films yet.

From the iconic ‘The Shining’ to the terrifying ‘The Mist’, Stephen King’s film adaptations are distinguished by an incredible atmosphere of escalating horror. Think of Jack’s gradual transformation and the absolutely terrifying mystique of the hotel in The Shining or Annie Wilkes’ deranged obsession in Misery. Many scenes give me goosebumps, even thinking about them.
But Stephen King is known for more than just horror. Andy Dufresne’s astonishing story in The Shawshank Redemption is far from horror and mysticism. Sure, the prison theme isn’t the friendliest and most cheerful, but the plot itself is even somewhat inspiring. Incidentally, the prison is also the main setting in another King adaptation, ‘The Green Mile’.
Interestingly enough, these two films have incredibly high ratings on Kinopoisk – both films have a score of 9.1 and are both in the Top 250 best films according to Kinopoisk.
