Fans couldn’t wait Batman Part II since the first film came out. Director Mattia Reeves has a unique vision of Gotham City and we can’t wait to see how the story evolves.
Reeves kept the next plot under wraps, but ultimately gave us just a small snippet of information to mull over as we wait for the full synopsis.
During a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via CBM), Reeves teased:
“We shared [the script] like we did with DC, and they’re super excited. It’s going to delve into the epic story of deep corruption and go to places [Bruce Wayne] I couldn’t even predict it in the first one.”
A deeper corruption of the Penguin? Sounds like a good idea to me. While he’s been tight-lipped about which characters we’ll see in the sequel, Reeves has indicated that some “fantastic” characters are off the table.
“It was important to me to find a way to take these pop icons, these mythical characters that everyone knows, and translate them in a way that made Gotham feel like a place in our world.
We could push it to the edge of the fantastic, but we would never go into the full fantastic. It’s meant to feel solid.”
Co-author Mattson Tomlin previously confirmed reports that filming is set to begin in 2025. He explained to ScreenRant:
“It’s shooting next year. We’re getting ready and I have to say the bar couldn’t be higher. It’s the sequel to the first one. But also, Matt [Reeves] it’s unique.
In the five years that I’ve worked closely with him, I’ve tried to absorb as much as I can from him and I’m very grateful for the time that I get to spend with him, because he’s a true artist operating in a world where sometimes art fails to thrive and he’s trying to create something that really matters.
So to be able to just be on the ride and be a part of that process, it’s pretty incredible, pretty awesome. I’m excited for the movie.”
