Marvel is doing very badly.
The past few years have been a challenge for the MCU. With rare exceptions, nearly every new Marvel film has failed miserably at the box office, and former fans of Kevin Feige’s universe have “buried” the latest blockbusters with negative reviews on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.
The original MCU series on Disney+ received the most hate, with fans hating most of Marvel’s long-running series and refusing to watch shows like She-Hulk and Secret Invasion.
This response certainly upset Feige, considering how much Disney has spent half a billion dollars to produce only three shows set in the MCU universe.
The studio invested incredible amounts of money into filming one of the few successful series in the film franchise, Moon Knight. $148 million. The series with Oscar Isaac was of course of quite high quality, but the special effects seemed to be absolutely not within the budget. It seems that Isaac was able to earn a decent fee for participating in the series.
Disney bosses spent slightly less on Loki season 2 $141 million. But fans couldn’t understand how they could spend the budget of two good prestige films on the production of only six episodes.
And what struck fans most was the budget of the failed Secret Invasion. Series rated at 5.9 points Disney flew to IMDb $211 million. The most boring spy series clearly didn’t look like it had such a budget.
Disney is currently down $11 billion on its streaming service. Studio head Bob Iger has already started canceling new projects, knowing the company won’t be able to throw that much money into thin air.
