Marvel’s NOVA series will be an ‘ensemble piece’ with ‘shades of TREK and BATTLESTAR’

Not long ago, the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige have confirmed that they are currently developing a New series for Disney+, with Feige stating:

“It’s happening, it’s taking shape. Richard Rider, yeah.” When asked if this would be in a theatrical or show format, Feige said, “A show, yeah, yeah.”

Now head of streaming, television and animation for Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaumalso talks about the project and offers some previews of what we can expect from the tone.

During a recent interview with the Phase Zero podcast, Winderbaum described the Nova series as “an incredible masterpiece with a great cast of characters” and indicated that both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander will appear.

He also said that the show will have “shades” of both The History of Star Trek AND Galactic Battlewhich is something I’m sure fans would appreciate. It’ll be interesting to see how the tone of those shows translates into this Nova project.

It was previously reported that the series would focus on a “young protagonist,” namely the hero’s most recent incarnation, Sam Alexander.

When previously there was talk of bringing Nova to life, Kevin Feige he said: “Timing is relative, right? I think I talked about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out.

“So ‘immediate potential’ is relative. But it’s clear that we’re not backing away from the cosmic end of the narrative, right at the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova itself.”

He also said, “Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board.”

Winderbaum said of the project: “We love Nova. We’re in the very early stages of development on Nova. We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios.

“We’re more like a traditional studio now. We’re developing more than we’re actually producing. There are plans to develop Nova. I also love Nova. I also love Rich Rider. I hope that makes it to the screen.

“The world is always chaos. There are always things. You have to conjure these things to make them happen, but I would love to see a Nova show someday.”

In the comics, Sam Alexander’s version of Nova is a fifteen-year-old from Carefree, Arizona, living with his parents and younger sister. He unexpectedly inherits the Nova mantle after discovering his father’s past as a member of the intergalactic Nova Corps.

Dealing with sudden responsibility and the mysteries surrounding his father’s disappearance, Sam dons the powerful Nova helmet, which gives him extraordinary abilities such as superhuman strength, speed and the ability to fly.

Guided by veteran heroes like Rocket Raccoon and Gamora, Sam learns to balance his new cosmic duties with the daily challenges of teenage life. He strives to live up to the legacy of the Nova Corps and his father’s example.

I guess it makes sense for Marvel to go in this direction to appeal to younger audiences. What do you think about the possibility of this version of the character being explored in the MCU?
