The Australian horror franchise Wolf’s Torrent is getting a reboot with a new movie titled Wolf Creek: LegacyThe franchise launched with the first film over 20 years ago and was spawned in 2013 with a sequel and TV series.
Now, creator Greg Mclean is returning to revitalize the franchise as a producer, and John Jarratt, who plays Outback serial killer Mick Taylor, is set to reprise his role.
In this new film, “a family of American tourists innocently wander into Taylor’s hunting grounds. When the parents sacrifice themselves to save their children, the boys find themselves alone, lost and hunted in the vast Australian wilderness.
“Will this new prey, two cunning and enterprising Zoomers, prove more difficult for the older predator to consume?”
The film also stars Jay Ryan (Chapter Two) and the producers are currently busy casting the film’s young cast. The plan is to shoot in Australia in early 2025.
Sean Lahiff will direct the film and was the editor of Wolf Creek 2. Producers include Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt, Christian Moliere (The Babadook) AND Bianca Martin.
Lahiff said in a statement: “My goal is to deliver the horror and suspense that fans of the Wolf Creek franchise and theater lovers in general have come to expect, but adding a new depth to the story.
“We’re exploring the psychological terror of being hunted, the fear and resilience of these young characters, and the nightmarish nature of the Outback itself.
“This is a story that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, but it will also touch on something deeper: the primal fears that dark fairy tales have always played on.”
Mclean added: “I’ve always believed in the power of fresh perspectives, which is why I’m thrilled to introduce Sean Lahiff as the director of Wolf Creek Legacy.
“Sean isn’t just entering this world; he’s been a part of it for years. This new chapter in the Wolf Creek saga is something I’m incredibly excited about: it’s a bold new story that honors the franchise’s roots while pushing it into new, uncharted territory.”
Calum Gray commented: “Wolf Creek transformed what horror meant to audiences, bringing them closer to a world of terror that was all too real and genuinely possible.
“And it made Mick Taylor legendary, one of the most iconic and unforgettable horror villains. The original was a touchstone for us as fans of the genre: we can’t wait to introduce Mick and his charm to a new generation!”
