It’s been a tough few days for Lucasfilm fans. Star Wars: The Acolyte with Disney canceling the series after one season and then removing all of its products from the Disney online store.
While some fans are wondering if Disney will erase the series from existence by removing it from Disney+, there is another group of fans who are trying to save it.
A “Save The Acolyte” campaign (#SaveTheAcolyte) has been launched on social media as fans find hope in bringing the show back. There is also a petition fans can sign online.
The petition reads: “The Acolyte opened doors to so many people Star Wars fans, new and old, to feel seen. To feel welcomed and accepted by an IP and fandom that previously hadn’t been for anyone who hadn’t checked certain boxes. Not only that, but The Acolyte has become a beacon of representation that many fans felt was missing in the Star Wars universe for decades.
“With creators and actors who truly understood the world of Star Wars, The Acolyte quickly became a fan favorite for the obvious passion and love shown in the work, and the drive to give us something new and fresh to fall in love with. New characters with new stories that still existed within the same galaxies we loved.
“Regardless of the review bombardment orchestrated by a small faction of vocal trolls and all the other obstacles this show has faced since the beginning, it has trended repeatedly during and after the show’s run. It has a very devoted fan base, willing to fight for its continuation. It’s a story that deserves to be told.”
I seriously doubt Disney will change their minds on this, there is a reason it was cancelled. We don’t know exactly why it was cancelled, so people are left to speculate. Some are citing low numbers and bad reviews, but it seems like the series has had a strong enough following to continue.
It was also recently revealed that Lucasfilm was in the process of prepping season 2 until last month, so something has happened in the meantime. We’ll just have to wait and see if Disney ever makes an official statement.
