Hulu has shared the first photos from its upcoming period boxing drama series A thousand blowsfrom Peaky Blinders Creator Knight Steven.
The series is set in the dangerous world of illegal boxing in 1880s Victorian London and stars Stephen Graham (Snatch, The Young Woman and the Sea) like Sugar Goodson, “an expert and dangerous boxer.”
The photos also show Graham Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow, “who finds himself catapulted into the vibrant and violent melting pot of London’s post-Industrial Revolution East End, having come from Jamaica.”
In the series, “Caught up in the criminal underbelly of the burgeoning boxing scene, he meets Mary Carr, played by Erin Doherty (The crown), leader of the Forty Elephants, the infamous London gang composed entirely of women, who fight for survival on the streets.
“As Hezekiah hones his new skills, he clashes with Sugar Goodson, played by Graham, an experienced and dangerous boxer, and the two soon find themselves embroiled in an intense rivalry that extends far beyond the ring.”
The ensemble cast also includes Francis Lovehall like Hezekiah’s best friend, Alec Munroe, Jason Tobin like Mr. Lao and James Nelson Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson.
The Forty Elephants includes by Hannah Walters like Eliza Moody, Give us Shaw like Alice Diamond, Nadia Albino like Verity Ross, Morgana Hilaire like Esme Long, Jemma Carlton like Belle Downer and Caoilfhionn Dunne like Anne Glover.
Additional cast includes Susanna Lynch like Jane Carr, Daniel May like William ‘Punch’ Lewis, Adam Nagaiti like the Earl of Lonsdale, Author: Gary Lewis like Jack Mac, Tom Davis like Charlie Mitchell and Robert Glenister like Indigo Jeremy.
A Thousand Blows will be released on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, on Hulu in the US, and in select territories on Disney+ in 2025.
