Another one of My Friend Garth Ennis’ comic books, Crossedis getting a film adaptation from Six Studios. Ennis is also the writer behind Preacher and The Boys, and if done right, Crossed could be a great movie.
Crossed takes place in “a world struck by a pandemic, where those who contract a disease are branded with a cross-shaped rash on their face. Those afflicted follow their worst impulses: think zombie apocalypse, but instead of zombies, these are humans who retain their intellect, but are homicidal maniacs.”
Producer Carl Choi spoke of the script, saying it tells an intimate and human story. “It was the most faithful adaptation possible.”
The film is described as Infection meet The Walking Deadwith hints of by Alex Garland Civil waras it is a road movie that crosses the devastated United States.
Six Studios is now looking for a director to helm the project, which they expect to have a budget of between $2 million and $3 million. But that budget could increase with the right talent. The plan is to go into production this fall.
The original 10 issues that inspired the film were published from 2008 to 2010. The franchise has spawned more than 200 issues from various writers and artists, including talents such as Alan Moore.
It will be a very low budget production, but I’m curious to see what kind of creative team they put together and what they can do in adapting the story.
