Legendary Pictures Develops ETERNAL CHAMPIONS Video Game Adaptation With Writer Derek Connolly

The 90’s video game franchise Eternal Champions is set to be adapted into a feature film by Legendary Pictures, with My friend Derek Connolly (Kong: Skull Island, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) attached to write the screenplay.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg AND Don Granger will produce for Skydance, together Toru Nakahara for Sega. Stuff to redo will serve as executive producer, while Aimee Rivera will oversee the project for Skydance.

Eternal Champions was originally released in 1993 and is a fighting game set in “a dystopian future where nine fighters from different eras and backgrounds are resurrected by an enigmatic entity known as the Eternal Champion.”

The game’s story centers on a tournament where only one fighter can win the chance to change their fate and prevent their untimely death.

This is one of the many fighting games I enjoyed playing when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun, but it’s also one of the few classic games that never made it past the 16-bit era.

It will be interesting to see if this movie ever gets off the ground. It will be interesting to see where they take the story and what the movie looks like visually.
