Colin Firth in talks to join Steven Spielberg’s UFO-inspired film project at Universal Pictures

Colin Firth (King’s Man) is in talks to join Emily Blunt in the director Steven Spielberguntitled film project currently in development at Universal Pictures.

Amblin Entertainment is producing the film and Spielberg developed the script with his longtime collaborator David Koepp (Jurassic Park).

According to Deadline, there are no plot details to share about this film, but it was previously reported that Spielberg’s next film would be a “UFO film based on his original idea.”

Spielberg previously reflected on his past and said he was interested in “scaring the hell out” audiences with a new horror film.

He said: “I feel a little alarmed when people tell me I’ve lived a life because I’m not done. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes you. I have to go back to some of those early scary movies, but that’s another story for later.”

I have no idea if this movie will be a sci-fi horror movie, but it would be really awesome if it was.

Spielberg has always been fascinated by stories about UFOs and aliens, he directed two of the greatest science fiction films of all time: Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 and AND in 1982. He also directed the 2005 adaptation of H.G. Wells The War of the Worldsand produced the 2002 UFO series Taken.

I’m curious to see what this movie will become. It will be released on May 15, 2026.
