LAIKA Studio has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming stop-motion animated film Wild forestand it looks like it will take audiences on an epic, dark fantasy adventure.
In the movie, “Beyond the city limits of Portland lies Wildwood. You’re not supposed to go there. You’re not supposed to even know it exists. But Prue McKeel is about to enter this enchanted wonderland.
“Her little brother Mac has been snatched away by a gang of ravens deep in the forest, and she, along with her hapless classmate Curtis, are on a mission to bring him back. Prue may think she’s too old for fairy tales, but she’s just found herself at the center of one.
“A world filled with strange talking animals, rogue bandits, and powerful characters with the darkest intentions.”
The film is described as “a story of love, loss, sacrifice and secrets, and the magic that can be found within your reach, if you’re willing to look for it.”
Wild forest It is written by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Coraline, The Missing Link), and is based on the novel written by Colin Meloythe lead singer/songwriter of The Decemberists, and illustrated by the artist Carson Ellis.
The film is directed by Kubo and the Two Strings AND Bumblebee director Knight TravisPresident and CEO of the award-winning animation studio.
Knight previously spoke about the film saying: “With Wild forestI have the opportunity to tell an insanely ambitious story of magic, wonder, and danger, set in the place where I grew up.
“My own Portland will join that pantheon of unforgettable fantasy realms, with a thrilling epic that will ignite imaginations, lift spirits, and break hearts. Colin and Carson’s novel is a lyrical work of art.
“The entire Laika family is fully committed to honoring him with a film of breathtaking spectacle and heartbreaking beauty. I can’t wait to share it with the world. Although we’re doing it in stop-motion, so, you know, I’ll have to.”
The voice cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Carey Mulligan’s Wife, Mahershala Ali, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Tom Waits, AND Richard E. Grant.
